A 400 ml electric dallah that travels: it sits on a white heating base with a gold band and runs from a single button flanked by two lamps that tell you when to add the coffee and when to add the cardamom. It works on 220-240 V, has a cut-out that stops it running dry and shuts it off when the pot is empty, and doubles as a plain water kettle.
Gulf Dalla's own sequence: fill to the upper limit and close the lid, switch on and it boils in about three minutes; at the beep the coffee lamp lights and you add the large end of the supplied measure, then the cardamom lamp lights and you add the small end with cardamom, saffron or another spice, and at the last beep the start button glows yellow. Hold that button for two seconds and the coffee stays hot for two hours. The whole thing packs into a padded black case with glass cups, canisters for the coffee and the spice, a domed date bowl and a lead with a UK plug.
